Tairua is a sleepy seaside village, conveniently located 2 hours from Auckland International Airport on the legendary Coromandel Peninsula.
We can honestly boast the closest world class diving to New Zealand's largest city - Auckland. We have half a dozen top quality restaurants and a superb range of accommodation.
The East Coast of the Coromandel is where a large percentage of New Zealand's qualified divers took their first breaths underwater!
Diving, unlike many countries around the world is a very popular pastime and many Kiwi's scuba dive on a susbsistence basis to feed the family with fresh crayfish (lobster) and scallops!
There are plenty of things to do within a close proximity making Tairua the perfect base for your diving holiday!
Diving is suitable year round. A 5mm is recommended for most of the year, although in the peak of winter a 7mm may keep you that bit warmer!
Visibility is often best in winter or the tail end of summer, and ranges at the Aldermen Islands from 10m - 40m.
A guide to our seasons are as follows:
Jan, Feb, Mar - peak water temps of 20 - 24 degrees.
April, May, June - often the best diving with few people around and still nice water temperatures around 16-17 degrees
July, August, Sept - coolest water 14-15 degrees, best crayfish diving, offshore winds and great visibility along the coast
Oct, Nov, Dec - great scallop diving, marine life galore, 16-19 degree water temp
